For the second fall sports season, St. Margaret’s will be taking advantage of their cross-country trail and playing fields at the new athletic complex on Sycamore Drive in Tappahannock.
“The athletic complex is not only an asset for St. Margaret’s, but for the entire community.” SMS Athletic Director Sue Haney said. “We invite sports fans to come out and enjoy a game.”
Essex High School will be using one of the two regulation playing fields this year for their field hockey practices and games. The complex also houses two softball diamonds and a faculty residence.
“We appreciate how generous the local school system has been in sharing their fields with us,” Head of School Margaret Broad said. “It is wonderful to finally be able to reach out to them.”
St. Margaret’s purchased the 42-acre property four years ago and began the first phase of construction last year. The official dedication took place on Oct. 12, 2007. Future plans for the property include an equipment storage building, a team building with locker rooms, and a pier.
